IF YOU CAN’T EXPLAIN IT ON ONE PAGE . . . DON’T DO IT!!

Over this past week, I’ve been watching many different proposals around health insurance in the United States.  In one magazine, Investors Business Daily, they had a flow chart of what the health insurance plan would look like.  It looked more like an electrical engineering chart of the Empire State Building than it did a health insurance plan.  At the end of the day, one of the things that I would tell you being a Certified Financial Planner® the past 13 years is that any type of investment that you do which cannot be explained easily on one page is probably not worth you doing.  You should be able to explain it to your ten year old.

So I have a little bit of advice for the people policy makers in Washington, D.C.   For the future of health insurance in our country.  Just make it simple for us.   I’d like to be able to explain it on one page to my eleven year old.   Then, and only then, will I think it makes sense.
