Where are the bargains in September?
To be a good CEO of your family finances, you need to begin thinking about having a quality financial plan. Your income statement is one very key part of the heart and soul of your company. We know that you will have to make purchases, and every month I’d like to bring you the items in that given month which should be on sale. Since most of our family financial decisions are either reactive or impulsive, having a good list on your calendar about when to purchase an item may help you pocket additional money every year.
Here are some to add to your calendar for September:
1) Major appliances – while many people are trying to hang on to their old appliances, retailers need to make room for next year’s models. This means a good opportunity to pick up this year’s models at reduced prices.
2) Bicycles - with the summer winding down, bike places and department stores will often knock down the prices on their existing inventory. This can be a great time to upgrade your current bike, or even buy your kids a new one for the holidays.
3) Summer clothing - before they too far off the racks, it is a great opportunity to pick up swimsuits, polo shirts, and summer fashion.
4) Outdoor furniture, dinnerware, and glassware – sure, you may not be able use them until next season, but the deals marked down this time of year.
5) New cars - although with inventory so low, you may have to sill hunt and peck for a bargain deal. I’m a big fan of buying used vs. new, but with car sales still moving so slow you just might find a real steal out there.
Just like being a smart investor, a good CEO learns how to be a smart shopper. This doesn’t mean stopping buying new things, it just means buying them at the right time. Each month, we’ll bring you another few tips on what to buy and when you should think about making that new purchase.
