In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxPeachtree, where x=independently organized TED event. At our TEDxPeachtree event, TEDTalks videos and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized. To learn more about TEDx, please visit ted.com/tedx.
The inaugural TEDxPeachtree will be held on December 4, 2009. Through TEDxPeachtree’s 2009 theme “What if…,” we hope to:
1. Bring the essence of the TED experience to Atlanta.
2. Showcase some of Atlanta’s most interesting thinkers and doers who have “ideas worth sharing.”
3. Inspire and challenge attendees to put ideas into action.
4. Provide a meaningful event experience that will allow us to produce a larger, more far-reaching event in 2010 and beyond.
This first TEDxPeachtree conference will follow the TED form and spirit. Attendance to the conference is by application only. Interested in attending? *Please apply here.
*Note that tickets are non-transferable and issued upon approval of your application.

About TED
TED is an annual event where some of the world’s leading thinkers and doers are invited to share what they are most passionate about. “TED” stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design — three broad subject areas that are, collectively, shaping our future. And in fact, the event is broader still, showcasing ideas that matter in any discipline. Attendees have called it “the ultimate brain spa” and “a four-day journey into the future.” The diverse audience — CEOs, scientists, creatives, philanthropists — is almost as extraordinary as the speakers, who have included Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Jane Goodall, Frank Gehry, Paul Simon, Sir Richard Branson, Philippe Starck and Bono.
TED was first held in Monterey, California, in 1984. In 2001, Chris Anderson’s Sapling Foundation acquired TED from its founder, Richard Saul Wurman. In recent years, TED has expanded to include an international conference, TEDGlobal; media initiatives, including TED Talks and TED.com; and the TED Prize. TED2010, “What the world Needs Now,” will be held Feb 9-13, 2010, in Long Beach, California, with a simulcast event in Palm Springs, California. TEDGlobal 2009, “The Substance of Things Not Seen,” will be held July 21-24, 2009, in Oxford, UK and TEDIndia will be held in November 2009.
About TEDxPeachtree
TEDxPeachtree seeks to develop and share the TED experience on a regional level by bringing together inspirational leaders, innovators, artists and entertainers in metropolitan Atlanta. An all-volunteer effort from a team of dedicated professionals led by local entrepreneur Al Meyers, the TEDxPeachtree Planning Committee is comprised of those who answered the twin calls to “volunteer” and “spread great ideas” posted on LinkedIn in May of 2009. Committee members include Chris Allen, Edward Rosenfeld, Eric Hammond, Francesco Scordato, Jacqui Chew, Jason Allen, Mike Schinkel, Richard Leber, Sarah Smith, Sonia Viteri, Teresa Roth, Yonathan Gebreyes. The TEDxPeachtree 2009 event will be held at the Savannah College of Art and Design-Atlanta (SCAD) in the heart of midtown Atlanta.
