Like many in the entrepreneurial community, I have always admired the innovative cutting edge approach Steve Jobs took with building the Apple brand. It is never easy taking the path less traveled as the journey is filled with criticism and naysayers who think you might be off your rocking chair for the vision you have for your business.
Consider for a moment that the beginnings of Apple were started in a garage. No fancy office surroundings, no fanfare in a big office building, and just a few guys with a dream on how they would change the face of the computer world. The first product launched and by 1980 the ill fated Apple III almost put Apple out of business. Like every successful business, there is always a moment when you are on the brink of hitting it big or going down the tubes.
Along the way, Steve Jobs was always focused on the creative genius of developing products that he thought would make the lives of people better and change the way people think about computers. As he passed away last night, I was reminded of just how far technology has come as just a few hours before that a client of mine showed me how their Apple phone was being used as their merchant system in their business to swipe credit cards and electronically send a customer a receipt right on the spot. Think about it . . . no credit card imprint system, no big swiping machine, just an Apple i phone with a tiny little swiper the size of a Chiclet as the merchant system. Well Steve Jobs, I'd say you have indelibly left your mark on society about making a change in the way we think about how phones, computers, and music will play a part in our lives.
Today is a great day to take a step back and realize life is short so you should spend every minute chasing your dreams. Thanks Steve Jobs for being an inspiration to me for taking a chance to be a great entrepreneur and make my own mark on changing the way people think about the financial services business.
