Does “Flow” Really Matter To The Average Investor?

Dollar Stores. Dollars Stores. It seems that dollar stores and discount stores are popping up at strip malls all over the place in suburbs across America. People often wonder are these stores just full of junk and odd lot products, or is there an opportunity to really get a bargain discount when you enter dollar mania. Here are my six smart money moves tips on what to buy when you go to the dollar store.

  1. Wrapping Paper- Is there really such a thing as top quality wrapping paper? I suppose some people like the fancy patterns and glitter, but doesn't it all end up in the garbage? You can stock up and get great buys on wrapping paper at the dollar store.
  2. Picture Frames- Why spend $25 at Crate and Barrel or Pottery Barn for a plain frame that most people are going to view from a distance. You can literally spend pennies on frames at the dollar especially on the smaller frames and still have photos look good for displaying.
  3. Paper Goods- When it comes to throwing a birthday party or just needing paper cups, plates, etc., the dollar store is a great place to stock on up these goods. Also look for plastic knives, forks, and spoons as a great pick up for birthday parties.
  4. Dishrags- You can usually pick these up at either two or three for a dollar and they tend to be pretty decent dishrags. Think about using these when you wash your car or have some dirty project rather than spending big money on washcloths.
  5. Accessories- When it comes to things like Scrunchies, headbands, and bracelets, the dollar store has some outstanding deals versus what you would get in the mall.
  6. Reading Glasses and Sunglasses- Look for deals on both of these items. They can run you $15 to $25 dollars even at the larger pharmacy stores, but you could find a steal on these at the dollar store.

One final thought on the dollar store. If your kids are having that feeling to spend a few bucks from their piggybank, these types of stores will stretch those dollars much further than going to the mall. It will all wind up in your kitchen drawer anyway, won't it?
