It's all anybody can talk about now leading up the Super Bowl . . . #deflategate. Even though Bill 'the science guy' Belicheck has vehemently denied any tampering with the footballs, there is silver lining from #deflategate. What if Bill Belicheck was helping you host your Super Bowl party? Maybe he could draw a parallel from deflating footballs to showing you how to deflate your budget and still pull off a touchdown for a Super Bowl Party. The Super Bowl is the second largest single day of food consumption after Thanksgiving. It also ranks as the most widely watched television show of the entire year. This can be an exciting day to invite over family, friends, and work colleagues over to your home to enjoy the big game. If you don't have a big budget to host the Super Bowl, here are my (and Uncle Bill's) smart money moves to stretch your dollar into the end zone.
- Make It A Potluck Sunday- If you are smart and stick to finger foods for your party (chicken tenders, pizza bites, and pigs in a blanket), get your guests to bring the side dishes and desserts. Most people like to pick during the game, so this type of set up will work very well.
- They Bring The Vodka, You Bring The Mixers- You could also consider a BYOB component to your party as well. Rather than buying lots of bottles of beer, you may supply a beer ball or something that will cut down on your overall cost. If you guests bring the wine and hard alcohol, supplying just the mixers only will help you save money on the bottom line.
- Pinterest, Pinterest, Pinterest- There are so many great easy and cheap recipe ideas on Pinterest. http://bit.ly/18g4nzk This one I found has 10 great dips to try really inexpensively that you can make right on game day. If you love peanut butter and pretzels, then http://bit.ly/1HOOBbd this peanut butter football dip might be out of this world for your guests. If you are still trying to stick to your New Year's resolution of dieting, http://bit.ly/1uMChpQ here are some interesting ideas on ways to eat healthy at your budget while still sticking to a budget.
- Have fun by playing the GUESS THE PSI game- You are probably going to do football squares anyway as that is a national pastime, but I am about to introduce a new one this year. What you do is buy three regulation sized footballs, and then have a jar where people can guess the PSI of the football. Closest to the actual pressure will win at the end of the night. See if your guests can really tell the difference between a 12 psi and a 13 psi to do your own #deflategate yourself.
- It's Dollar General Time- If you need paper goods, go for solid colors like orange and green this year. The dollar store is a great place to get cheap cups, plates, napkins, and plastic silverware so you aren't spending a fortune on these items.
I guess as long as you don't mouth off like Richard Sherman your party should go off without a hitch. Bill Belicheck knows about how to read the rule book and make the most of every rule. Use these five #deflategate techniques to deflate your wallet, and still throw a party that everyone will love. Most people just want to be around a bunch of people who enjoy football and a good time while they enjoy one of the biggest days of the year.
