The Super Bowl is the second largest single day of food consumption after Thanksgiving. It also ranks as the most widely watched television show of the entire year. Needless to say that it is not a national holiday, but it will sure act like one this upcoming Sunday. Much like Thanksgiving, this can be an exciting day to invite over family, friends, and work colleagues over to your home to enjoy the big game. If you don’t have a big budget to host the Super Bowl, here are your smart money moves to make a touchdown on a budget.
- Make It A Potluck Sunday- If you are smart and stick to finger foods for your party (chicken tenders, pizza bites, and pigs in a blanket), get your guests to bring the side dishes and desserts. Most people like to pick during the game, so this type of set up will work very well.
- They Bring The Vodka, You Bring The Mixers- You could also consider a BYOB component to your party as well. Rather than buying lots of bottles of beer, you may supply a beer ball or something that will cut down on your overall cost. If you guests bring the wine and hard alcohol, supplying just the mixers only will help you save money on the bottom line.
- Avoid The Supermarkets- The grocery stores love to set up their potato chip or Dorito’s display with a mini football field right at the entry point of the store for the week coming up to the Super Bowl. Try to buy all of your chips, nuts, and sweets in bulk.
- Minimize The Decorations- Odds are that if your team or your guest’s team are playing in the big game, they’ll be wearing a shirt or jersey to represent their team. Don’t waste your money buying lots of elaborate decorations for the house as most of the guests will be focused on the food, the game, and the booze.
- It’s Dollar General Time- If you need paper goods, go for solid colors like orange and green this year. The dollar store is a great place to get cheap cups, plates, napkins, and plastic silverware so you aren’t spending a fortune on these items.
I guess as long as you don’t mouth off like Richard Sherman your party should go off without a hitch. Most people just want to be around a bunch of people who enjoy football and a good time while they enjoy one of the biggest days of the year. Stick to these five tips and you too can host a party without draining your wallet!
