Amanda talks about how she began her pie baking business and how it all started by baking pies out of her home for her neighbors. After learning to make her first pie from her mother-in-law and moving to a new neighborhood she thought the best way to meet her neighbors was by bringing them homemade pies. Not only was she right but her husband suggested that she begin to sell them at an upcoming festival in the area. After beginning to sell her pies at the festival on a Tuesday she had set up a tent and begun to design business cards and a logo by Thursday. Atlanta Small Business Profile – Lara Hodgson, NOW Corporation

Lara Hodgson, President, and CEO of NOW Corporation joins our host, Ted Jenkin, on this week’s episode of the Atlanta Small Business Profile. They discuss the importance of receivables for small businesses, and how they may play a bigger part in the growth of a business than you might think. Lara founded her business during the 2008 recession through a previous business she had, called Nourish. Lara says that it was through the challenges of transitioning businesses, that she was able to discover a better solution and help her start the NOW Corporation. Now having almost tripled the number of employees within her company, she says that the best way for a new entrepreneur to learn and grow their business is to get advice from other entrepreneurs. These tips will help you max out your retirement contributions this year

As the calendar crosses the mid-year mark, are you on track to reach your retirement savings goals? The IRS has raised the limits for what you can put away in pre-tax retirement savings account this year. That means you can sock away as much as $19,000 in your 401(k), 403(b), Thrift Savings Plan and most 457 plans, up from $18,500 in 2018. You can also save as much as $6,000 in an IRA, up from $5,500 in 2018. If you’re age 50 and over, you can put in an additional $6,000 in your 401(k) and other employee plans and another $1,000 in your IRA. Even if your personal savings will be nowhere near those limits, now is a great time to check on whether your savings rates will get you to your goals for this year and beyond. On this week’s episode of the Atlanta Small Business Profile, Ted Jenkin sits down with “Southside Steve” Rickman, radio personality, serial entrepreneur, and owner of SSquared Brands. After transferring to Georgia State University, Steve was talking to a friend who worked at “Album 88”, a 100,000-watt radio station which at the time was one of the top biggest college station signals in the country. Steve decided to join the radio station in an effort to become a stand-up comedian; little did Steve know that he would continue to do radio for years after he left school. Atlanta Small Business Profile – Jamie Bodner, Pinnacle Fitness

On this week’s episode of the Atlanta Small Business Profile, our host, Ted Jenkin, caught up with Jamie Bodner, fitness design expert, and owner of Pinnacle Fitness. Born and raised in New York, Jamie was working at the World Trade Center during the time of the 9/11 attack, however, he just so happened to not be at work that day. He says this gave him a feeling of a second chance, and this is when he asked himself what he really wanted to do with his life.
